You’ve probably seen us posting about these 3 organisations over the past year or so – blasting updates on social media, in our newsletters and on our website.

But who are they? And why do we support them?

Well we thought we’d answer this question all in one go. We’re proud to do what we do, and proud to support these three incredible organisations: Children First Foundation, Batyr, and the Huon Genesys Cycling Team. Read on!

Who are they?

The Children First Foundation (CFF) was established in July 1999 to support Moira Kelly, AO’s humanitarian work.

What do they do?

The Foundation’s mission is to transform the lives of children who need us most by giving hope, exceptional care and pathways to a brighter future. To achieve this the Foundation operates two programs, Miracle sMiles and Between the Gaps.

The Miracle sMiles Program brings children to Australia from developing countries for life saving/life changing surgery. The Between the Gaps program, we have provided ancillary medical assistance to disadvantaged Australian children.

Why we support Children First?

We are proud to support Children First along with Genesys Group. We are amazed and grateful for the impact that the foundation makes on transforming the lives of children who need help the most.

What have we recently done to support them?

We donated a (very spiffy) Avanti road bike to Children First Foundation for the children to enjoy.

Who are they?

Batyr is a non-profit organisation established in 2012, ‘giving a voice to the elephant in the room’.

What do they do?

Batyr seeks to engage, educate and empower young people to make a positive chance to the mental health of young Australians by speaking out about social and mental health issues. Batyr’s mission is to foster an environment where seeking help and talking about mental health is not only acceptable but is encouraged and supported.

In an average Australian year 12 classroom of 30 students, 7 will be dealing with a serious mental illness, 2 will seek professional help and 1 will attempt suicide. Batyr was established to directly address the stigma associated with mental health by giving young people a voice, and the courage and conviction to share stores of triumph over mental illness.

Why do we support Batyr?

Sebastian, the founder of Batyr worked for us whilst at ANU in the Canberra office. Like everyone else it seems we really had no idea the issues with mental depression that Seb faced. Since this time, we have seen Seb and Batyr grow and touch so many students (including our own sons and daughters at school) with such a positive message.

What have we recently done to support Batyr?

We had our Cleo Bachelor of the Year campaign for Seb, who was a nominated Bachelor this year. For every ‘like’ we received on Facebook in August, we donated $1 to Batyr. We ended up getting 200 likes, but we also doubled this and donated $400 to Batyr (a consolation price as Seb didn’t end up winning!).

Matt B and Gill B also attended Batyr’s ‘Blue Tie Ball’ in September 2013, which was in Sydney.

Clare, our marketing associate, also helped organise the Civic2Surf, which is a student-run initiative that raised $40,000 for Batyr in late 2012. This was held in a relay run format held over 24 hours from Civic Canberra to Bondi in the name of mental health for young people.

Who are they?

The Huon-Genesys Wealth Advisers Pro Cycling team is a Professional Cycling team that competes in the Australian National Road Series, as well as selected races in Asia and New Zealand. The team was established in 2001 and boasts a successful race history.

What do they do?

The Huon-Genesys Pro Cycling Team has had numerous successes in the recent years. Some examples include;

  • 2010 National Road Series Team Champion
  • 2011 National Road Series Team Champion
  • 2011 – 1st Japan Cup
  • 2012 National Road Series Team Champion
  • The team are also headed to win the 2013 National Road Series Team Champion

Why do we support HGPT?

Apart from winning races, the Huon-Genesys Pro Cycling Team also functions as a very successful development squad with riders joining international riding teams such as Team Sky, and LEOPARD-TREK.

The team also promotes the work of Moira Kelly’s Children First Foundation and raise much needed funds for its activities.
What have we recently done with HGPT?

We recently had a ‘meet and greet’ night with the team, leading up to the National Capital Tour in September. The night was a great way to get to know each rider in the team, share tips and success stories, and celebrate cycling. We also gave away prizes, such as team car rides to 3 junior gun cyclists from around Canberra.
